Don't forget that Ontario is a large province encompassing Plant hardiness
zone from 1a-6b. The bulk of beekeeping is done in areas in zones 6b-4b.
Weather can be incredibly local. I am in Barrie, only about 40 miles north
of Bob in the Caledon area yet on average we get 2.5 more feet of snow.

"Lifting" is one more good reason to switch to singles. You can check
colony strength, treat, feed, etc all without lifting off that second brood
chamber. Singles are also lot easier to move by hand if you work alone.
