In the 80's, there were advocates of jumbo among the Seattle area beekeepers - less equipment, bees do better, yada, yada, yada. And - these guys were using them not just in the brood chamber, but also as honey supers.
Like many beekeepers, I've a surgical scar from back surgery, and my x-ray's show that a life time of lifting - first from carrying 5 gallon milk pails, then manually stacking bales for hire (1,000+ bales per person per day, minimum in order to make any money), and then hoisting beehives - only an idiot would use jumbos.
