NYC imposes only one firm requirement on beekeepers - that we provide them
with a constant water source.
But we are not exempt from the prohibition against "standing water", as West
Nile Virus still kills a few people now and again.
So, the "urban mosquito-fish lily pond" is most often created in half a
plastic 55-gallon drum, with an aerator pump, as pioneered by Mike Barrett,
who works at the NYU library, found some ag extension pamphlets, and lacked
a wife to refuse him permission.
I find that my bees like the condenser drip pans of rooftop A/C units best
of all, even hives directly across the street from the
1-trillion-gallon-plus Jackie Kennedy Reservoir.
