Maybe so, but are they safe to eat? New York State publishes a handbook on the topic: "Health Advice on Eating
Sportfish and Game." They advise not to eat wild caught fish more than once a week, except in some areas and some species which are never safe to eat.

for example:
Hudson River, Hudson Falls Dam at Bakers Falls to Federal Dam at Troy (Rensselaer, Albany, Washington, Saratoga)
All fish Catch and Release fishing ONLY per NYS DEC regulations.
Take No Fish. Eat No Fish. Chemicals of Concern: PCBs
