 Maurizio in the 50s? produced long lived bees in the summer 
by preventing them from rearing brood, leading to a fairly simplistic 
working model.  At some level, that model has good explanatory power, 
even though it may not be perfectly accurate.


Nice to see someone else remembers her work! 


On another issue, I remember some years ago when digging into protein issues, there were warnings about too much of a good thing resulting in protein toxicity.  Maybe Peter can find the papers?  I've moved my offices too many times in past few years - so files were lost.
