I apparently did not explain what i was asking clearly enough,
Charlie--sorry. Your description of events is exactly the explanation that
I had proposed. Thanks.
But now you've got me a bit confused by two of your statements:
1. They always stay with brood; and
2. 2/3 years back I lost several hundred frames of brood from a snap like
that
During cold snaps I often observe the brood on the periphery of frames
being abandoned to chilling, but not full frames of brood. But our
temperature swings may not go as low as yours in spring. Are you saying
that your colonies were not able to maintain thermoregulation of full
frames of brood?
