A week or so we were discussing the effects of smoke. Someone mentioned they don’t gorge, they just try to clean up broken cells.
While that may be true at times, rest assured they do also gorge on honey. I was just checking a hive, light smoke and darn few bees (dink repair) probably 8 frames of bees in a 1 1/2 hive. And the bees were forming a huge smile on each frame. Gorging on the honey band. 4-5 frames worth. Absolutely no doubt what they were doing.
Not what I see every time, but is was completely obvious in this broodless hive.
FYI dead grass and Pine needles as fuel.
