Hello Anne and others, I tested apiguard long time ago for efficacy in Ontario. The efficacy was around 60%. For sure the substrate matters. The surface using that ashtray type was not large enough to provide effective levels of thymol vapour to kill mites. In any case we gave up on that product due to our climate conditions during treatment.
By the way the two products thymovar and apiguard smell the same since they use the same active ingredient.
Oxalic acid in shop towels or strips is under investigation in Canada. No enough data have been gathered to support the application method registration.
