More notes quoting Mike Simone-Finstrom:
- Tom Rinderer's unpublished work showed queens mated in mating
nucs with irradiated combs go on to run hives that produce more honey and
more frames of brood
- Lilian de Guzman found hives packaged on irradiated comb didn't
have different adult populations or varroa levels compared to
non-irradiated comb, but they did store more pollen in the comb. Bees on
non-irradiated comb started foraging at an earlier age.
He concludes his presentation by saying more research needs to be done on
which doses of radiation are most effective at killing viruses, given CBPV
was apparently not affected at his tested dose and BCV was only partially
affected.
