If it occurs regularly with chronic problems and intensely in response 
to acute problems then we have a major problem.  How does one 
get adequate or representative samples for diagnostics, studies of the 
effects of negative agents, selection for resistance to the agents.  An 
analogous situation occurs on immature stages when the sickest 
individuals are removed by hygienic activities of adults.
