Two different things being discussed. Sulfur, or elemental sulfur is the
repellent. Sulfur dioxide is an entirely different issue and is very nasty
to bees and beekeepers.
When I was a kid, my Gilbert chemistry set had elemental sulfur and one of
the experiments was to burn it. It literally takes your breath away.
