I suggest trying the "Holst Milk Test". I'm not sure why it is not used more, other than the fact (?) that combs stored with PDB may give erroneous results. I tried it one time on an obvious AFT hive and it was VERY cool how it worked. Randy Oliver has info on it with images on his web site at http://extension.wsu.edu/snohomish/garden/gardening-resources/bees-and-beekeeping/beekeeping-links/#DISEASES Additional info can be found in my collection of links at http://extension.wsu.edu/snohomish/garden/gardening-resources/bees-and-beekeeping/beekeeping-links/#DISEASES HOPE you don't have it.....bad stuff.... cheers, dave.... ===================== Dave Pehling WSU Extension Snohomish Co. 600 128th St. SE Everett, WA. 98208 425-338-2400 http://snohomish.wsu.edu http://gardening.wsu.edu/ =================== ________________________________________ From: Informed Discussion of Beekeeping Issues and Bee Biology [[log in to unmask]] on behalf of Diane Boller [[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, June 19, 2017 5:35 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [BEE-L] USDA Beltsville Hi Friends, I'm worried about one of my hives in an outlying beeyard showing signs of American Foul Brood. It doesn't smell bad, and I haven't done the matchstick test yet, but the brood frames are questionable. I was going to send a sample to Beltsville, and found this: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.ars.usda.gov_northeast-2Darea_beltsville-2Dmd_beltsville-2Dagricultural-2Dresearch-2Dcenter_bee-2Dresearch-2Dlaboratory_docs_how-2Dto-2Dsubmit-2Dsamples_&d=DwIBaQ&c=C3yme8gMkxg_ihJNXS06ZyWk4EJm8LdrrvxQb-Je7sw&r=E46gEruIt9Qyw2IXC8wn2w&m=CbfPIx12mEHeRwmtsMvoxSIgaGa8RT9SDOvp5y4_LfU&s=RKopmnDf7NlT-VI3XNNoA8h_wRPxI8kl_kzV1zeE_80&e= I know this isn't supposed to be a political place, but I've been beekeeping for 20 years, and throughout that time thought that I could send samples to Beltsville. Does anyone know WTF? Thanks! Diane *********************************************** The BEE-L mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software.
