We also learned at ESHPA that the number of colonies has increased in the USA, but honey production has decreased. There seems to be a correlation here....nutrition on limited forage (monocultures) is affecting colony success...the landscape has changed.

this may be easily explained by shifting market forces. the market for honey may be quite flat.....if you look at the price of honey delivered from Argentina you might reasonable suspect the price of honey is soft and moving downward. On the other hand the demand for bees and queens is quite robust given the expanded novice and hobby beekeeper interest.
