Dorsata, cerana, florea all are native to the same region consisting of India and most of southeast Asia. See: Borst, P. (2015) Origin and Distribution of the Honey Bee. ABJ. By now, Apis mellifera is distributed throughout the region as well, so there is considerable overlap. But I wonder if they are referring to the "small bees" promoted by the small cell folks. Fact is, the difference between small and large A. mellifera is too slight to be seen by the average person.
