>As I have stated I often bring live mites home in sugar and they will survive for more than 72 hrs.<
About 2 years ago I took out a frame of capped drone brood. The idea was to sample it for mites once I got to another beeyard. The frame sat in my car for 4 days before I got around to it and by that time the drone brood was dead and decaying. But the mites were alive. As I started pulling out a few drone pupa, mites could be seen walking around on the dead pupa. This was in late May and the daytime temps were in the high 80's during that time. I imagine the inside of the car got even hotter. I was amazed that some of the mites survived that long.
