LD-50s describe concentrations of the protein (read toxin) only, not the bacteria producing it. C botulinum is an anaerobe, thus the danger in improperly sterilized canned foods--particularly if the contents are meant to be eaten cold.
Interesting as a side note, botulinum toxin is the active ingredient in Botox--paralyzing facial muscles on injection to get rid of those pesky wrinkles. Smile!
