I had a professor in college who became a fairly close friend for a bit. His specialty was cetaceans, particularly of the dolphin and porpoise variety. He had a great story about how people always marveled at the stories of dolphins who (that?) pulled drowning swimmers into shallow water and saved them. "They never consider," he'd say, "the other 50% of swimmers that they towed out to sea!"
