May be a very over simplification,  but is it possible just the raising of brood levels is a bigger factor than pollen?  IE bees that brood rearing is less of a factor seem to live longer.   Posdsibly from being shall we say "nursed down"  Thinking maybe the act of brood rearing is harder on the young bees.
