I mostly use single deep brood chambers(9 frames) which are often wall
to wall brood. In these hives I find the first honey super above the
queen excluder is travel stained with the bees storing nectar and
pollen then retrieving it for brood food.
I have had a hive for several years with 2 deeps as a brood chamber.
They pack the brood boxes and take very little through the queen
excluder. I believe this is a queen issue as I have seen very few
hives, over the years, refusing to pass through the excluder.
