A question has been asked at many meetings that I attended and gave presentations. Mites developed resistance to Apistan, checkmite and most likely Amitraz in many places. Since the introduction of mites we have had only these 3 synthetic miticides. In North America one product was registered at a time to replace the failing one leaving no choices to alternate. Consequently, it was hard to manage resistance. Now, we also don't have any replacements for these three specific miticides. The question that beekeepers have been asking: is there any similar miticides with different modes of actions in the tool box or in the pipeline to replace those failing ones due to resistance?
Thus beekeepers can use better implementations of IPM of varroa and manage resistance to miticides by selecting a combination of the proper effective miticides (organic or synthetic), genetics and cultural methods that are effective and fit their system.
