This is not the same as yield, however, and farmers may plant them crowded to increase per acre yield. Obviously, there is an optimum planting rate, which has to be worked out.
Pete, belive me, its all worked out, is there one in particular you would like to know? Ther are some variations based on soil types but its pretty consistent. Corn and beans are designed to shade out other plants, Canola is based on root density. (different for spring or winter canolas) Etc....
