I give this instruction to our classes - regardless of what many book say, do not use ether roll.  

With open smokers, it's asking for an accident.    And bees are just as dead as with alcohol.

Obviously common sense says keep ether (either the liquid or the spray can) away from a smoker - but fire and ether are a bad combination.
