> Hey you Aussie beeks--do you know of any formal trials comparing the two?
Way back in the past there was study done by Graham Kleinschmidt on using a single brood box of a 10 frame full depth as against two 10 frame WSP brood boxes. A WSP is about 7 1/2 inches deep. So far back I cannot recall the results but someone may find it. Otherwise I am not aware of any published trials here in Australia.
There are plenty of opinions on which is best but Australia tends to use a single brood box with queen excluder as it is convenient to take honey off by supers without brood in them. We do comb rotation with normally a minimum of 3 frames per year which means brood combs are no older than 3 years (9 frames run in a 10 frame box).
