Brion, as I understand that problem, it is mostly because of light comb in
top boxes. Light comb is colder then dark ones, where many generation of
bees have been raising. Additionally to say, bees are much more sensitive
to temperature differences compared to humans, so it is clear what they
will choose if they only have a possibility of the choice. We can
understand that if we ask ourselves a question whether we would choose a
concrete or a wooden floor to stay in for a long time.
Additionally, bees will not cap light honey cells in Autumn as they would
do with darker comb, I think it is because they would never choose to spend
the winter on light combs.
