Epigenetics is not "most often a process of stress causing damaged offspring." In fact stress in general has nothing to do with epigenetics most of the time. Without epigenetics there would be no life more complex than bacteria. It is every bit as vital as normal DNA and RNA to all higher life. We would not exist without epigenetics nor would our bees exist. Epigenetics can also persist across several generations in some cases. Examples of more than three generations are well documented.
