For years I have been told, and have been telling others, that mites prefer drone cells for reproduction. Here is just one source I found via a quick Google search: https://projects.ncsu.edu/cals/entomology/apiculture/pdfs/2.03%20copy.pdf : "Mites prefer drone larvae over worker larvae, but they will infest worker larvae and eventually kill the colony if preventive measures are not taken."
Are you saying this is all wrong?
