> Is anyone participating in the Annual Colony Loss Survey?

Hi Mark

I have stopped participating in all surveys for now. For one, I get about three requests per day to fill out some survey. Most of them are ploys to get you into their system, either to sell you stuff or ask for donations.

But beyond that, survey response is skewed by lack of response from key demographics and over-response from other people who just want to be heard by somebody. To me, this skew destroys most of the potential value of the survey data.

I posted a while back about a New Yorker article that suggests that surveys have a negative effect on important social issues like democracy, fair representation, etc. Like advertising, they can drive public opinion in unhelpful ways.
