"Here's an idea: I accidentally discovered by wearing a yellow sweatshirt at a garden centre that the flea beetles, the principal target of neonics, are attracted to the colour yellow. I wonder how effective it would be, before the OSR (canola) comes into flower, to place yellow boards or fabric coated with glue/insecticide around the fields to reduce the breeding stock of the beetles."
Extrapolating....I wonder if genetic modification techniques are sufficiently advance to change the colour of OSR from yellow to (say) blue. Might confuse the beetles or allow your sticky yellow boards to be more effective yet still be attractive to the bees.
