JC: When I see or hear statements like that, my immediate response is, "That settles it, the cause was mites"
**All hives have mites **, and failure to detect evidence means categorically that the evidence was *missed*.
While I agree that most beekeeper/beehive problems begin with mites, John, would you please elaborate on what you think "evidence of mites" is in a deadout or abandoned colony, and also please explain what you think "lack of evidence" of mites in hives might be.
