I never managed to find out why! It was in a teaching apiary belonging to a commercial beekeeping outfit and the bees seemed to be eating the banana quite happily. I was a little surprised to find that they were good tempered as I thought that bananas contain isopentyl acetate (or something very similar) which is, of course, an alarm pheromone. I wondered whether they were attacking the banana but it seemed not.
I also pointed out that they had EFB, but was told that this was the reason that they had not been migrated to the Longan orchards (they were too weak)!
