Why the glycerine and cotton pads? We put thymol into recycled honey jars lids - and if we run out of those we just spread it on a piece of newspaper. We reduce the dose for small colonies, e.g. nucs and I see no reason for you not to reduce it if you consider ambient temperatures are a problem, but surely the bees regulate the temperature in the hive if there is brood?
