The key element is maintaining strong hives.
Those beekeepers affected in the quarantine area use freezing of equipment
at the end of the season
to kill any beetles in extracted honey supers etc. They try to maintain
strong hives to control their infestation
There have been incursions in e.g. Niagara area where I am, but close to
the U.S. boarder and those hives were as the provincial apiarist
likes to put it - eradicated. There have been other spotty occurrences
as per the above website.
