The alfalfa leafcutter bee, Megachile rotundata, is an efficient pollinator
of alfalfa.
Leafcutters are used extensively in Nevada for alfalfa pollination.
The alfalfa flower make a movement to to snap pollen onto the bee while it
feeds.
Honey bees tend to dislike being hit so they get the nectar by accessing
the flower
from the side. New foragers learn to avoid being hit so pollination drops
off significantly
with older honey bee foragers.
