a Jim Fischer snip..
In contrast, I was emailed an anecdote by a person who was convinced that
the ringing of a local church bell was causing his bees to quickly exit the
hive and become highly defensive. I suggested he might requeen. What else
could I suggest?
>or perhaps build a sound wall between hive and bell and then see what happens?
>as a couple of side notes I do seem to recall a short article in the ABJ long long ago where someone had the idea that the vibration of a running truck would somewhat settle the bees. anyway the idea did seem to have some merit.
>not that long ago I had about 8 hives on a pipe stand in a small fenced in bit of ground that was also the location of a large diesel water pump (drove one of those large center pivot irrigation units).... when the pump ran the hives on the far end of the stand were extremely hostile. hostile enough that servicing the pump became a problem. I moved the same hives about 3/4 of a mile away and they settled down almost immediately. The large diesel pump did make a definitive thump thump sound.
