This is a completely unfounded slam on queen breeders. How would one even go
about selecting for short lived queens?
Agreed, my point was not that. But that our methods may be encouraging
that.
Beyond that, longevity in workers is epigenetically regulated to produce
short- and long-lived worker castes.
Is it possible to determine which ones are which and breed for one or the
other? Or would that be detrimental to the hives overall health (out of
balance)
