Hi Deborah:
I have only one case of absconding whose cause was evident. I had made a
number of splits with a new queen and a frame of brood, a frame of pollen
and a frame of honey. The queens were accepted and the 3 frame nucs looked
healthy. A few weeks later they were looking good but crowded and I decided
to move them into full 9 frame brood boxes the next day. Unfortunately I was
unable to get to them for some time and when I did get out there several of
the nucs had absconded. I am fairly sure it was just due to the crowding.
Best regards,
Donald Aitken
