I have never lost a queen in 4 years of using this method. I do not count mites in the fall. I treat all hives. I do alcohol washes in the spring and treat with Amitraz if I am having a mite problem. I've only had to treat with it once 2 years ago. I am having good results with it. However, when I do mite counts they seem to be always below acceptable thresholds. But I know that mites build up in the fall, I want good winter bees and so I start in the middle of August. I've never seen any brood loses from this method either.
