> Anyone else with experience with Thymovar?
I have limited experience with thymovar and can give you no efficacy
figures, but have made following observations:
- Strong hives propolise the strips quickly. The characteristic odor that is
obvious around the hives the first few days diminishes quickly and is
practically absent after a week (of the 3 week treatment period).
- I have not yet seen a significant mite drop in the first days after the
application (in contrast with oxalic dribble).
- 2 years ago I had a hive crash in november after an august treatment with
thymovar (my first hive..).
I therefore have doubts that the efficacy of thymovar is high.
This year mite drop after thymovar was very low, but this may not have been
a very good breeding year for the mites (cold spring) and I knocked the
mites back in june with oxalic acid also. A powdered sugar control treatment
at the end of august did not show a higher mite fall, so I'm reasonably at
ease. My current natural mite fall is 2-3/week.
