You can avoid if you wish--look at the label for the words "Certified
Organic." That label does not mean that the food will not contain
pesticide residues or other environmental pollutants, but any will likely
be at slightly lower levels than in conventionally-grown food. How much
less? Compare the annual USDA testing of conventional food vs whatever
testing of organic food that you can find.
