Instead of using oil, you might try using pickling lime.  Think it will cause the same effect and would be a lot easier to handle.  It just packs after a while and you have to knock it loose and put new powder in.

They are cheap and easy to use, the tray not only provides an "escape" from chasing bees but vegetable oil acts as an attractant. They fit easily between frames underneath your inner cover or migratory top. I have them in place on several hives but have yet to check on efficacy
