Peter - I did not see the article you mentioned. Is it available on BEE-L or can you provide it here for review? I am considering splitting a strong two deep colony the end of July in Livermore, CA. for build-up for next Spring honey flow. I live on the edge of town, I'll treat with formic acid in mid Aug., and there will be pollen and nectar through mid Sept. but after that I will provide pollen supplement and 2:1 syrup through mid Oct. I might decide to just wait until the first of March when strong hives are building up to swarm here.
