All
We've been developing with UM a Master Beekeeping Series that can be taken
for Certificate or for Academic Credit. In either case, you have to pass
the tests in order to receive either. These are true University level
courses; and we treat them as such.
We ran several of the Apprentice level courses in Missoula last year, and
we will launch the Journeyman level course in Missoula on June 24 (MWF/week,
2-3 hrs per night, with the Final in the beeyard on Aug 3).
We've worked all winter on an On-Line version of the Apprentice Course, and
we will launch it on same date.
Depending on registration numbers for any given area, the Course Final for
the On-Line course will either require you to come to Missoula, we may
come to your area, or we may work with a local bee specialist in your area
to ensure you can take the in the beeyard final.
The On-Line program has a textbook, assigned readings, videos and
animations to illustrate points, discussion forums, on-line quizzes, and an on-line
final (text-based exam); then demonstration of proficiency in the beeyard
will conclude the course.
Our Apprentice level course focuses on providing the knowledge and skills
to successfully manage and keep healthy bees. We emphasize the why over
the what - why you should do something, why bees respond in certain ways, not
just what you should do, what they will do. Managing bees is a dynamic
exercise.
If interested in any of our classes, registration is open at: _umt.edu/bee_
(http://umt.edu/ce/extended/noncredit/beekeeping/online.php)
We are offering:
1) A three week, face to face Apprentice Course in Missoula,
2) A face to face Journeyman Course in Missoula (if you've not taken the
Apprentice course, you need to pass an exam in order to enroll), and
3) our First On-Line Apprentice Course.
Next winter, we will construct the On-Line Journeyman level course to be
offered in summer 2014.
Finally, we team teach and my team is well experienced - I've 40+ years,
Scott has nearly 12, and Phil has over 20 years of bee management and bee
research experience. We work all over the world, have seen a wide array of
beekeeping practices. We bring our research knowledge to this subject,
we're not simply bee managers.
Thanks
Jerry
