You're right Andrew--losing the field force during the active season is a
setback for the colony. Not so much so later in the summer/fall.
If one moves bees out during flight hours, you leave a real hazard behind,
as the lost bees can be extremely defensive. I've seen real messes, with
thousands of pounds of hot bees hanging from the trees. Dangerous to any
farm hands or passers by.
