Jeremy;
I follow the dosage guidelines as published in the WVa paper and again,
have had no problems. If you read the paper closely they say that a light
kill of newly emerged bees is a good sign as the newly emerged bees have
soft integument that the acid fumes penetrate. So, if there is a light
kill of young bees there is probably a good kill of mites. We very seldom
have the sort of cool temperatures recommended for formic application so I
prefer to wait until after 4-5 PM when the bees are in the shade and
temperatures have begun to fall out of the 90's to place the boards. I
find the acid has dissipated by the following morning so it is in fact a
'flash' treatment.
I know Allen Dick has commented on using formic on meat pads in the past
but the formic fume boards can be used over and over. I found 'pet
training pads' used to soak up puppy pee I guess to be the best absorbent
pad to use in my boards.
good luck
