Agreed. Who would buy a horse or a cow without knowing something about
them, or without having someone at hand who does?
If a newbie does have a mentor, rather than personal experience, it is
wise to follow that mentor's advice, and rely on the mentor's judgement.
The specific routes taken will likley be different in each case and
depend on many factors, including, hopefully, the goals and abilities
of the newbee.
