I compared sugar water 454g/qt to 454g sugar, 50 ml Ensure, 3g lard (with 1 oz 40% ethanol 80 proof rum as an emulsifier), 1/8 tsp chicken vitamin, QS water to 1 qt.
The mixture was brought to about 145 F to combat bacterial growth. One bottle of each type was fed from upturned jars on top bar.
About 20% more pure sugar water was consumed. There is no evidence of diarrhea or ill effect.
This is only to test for palatability and diarrhea. Intent is low protein to avoid encouraging brood rearing, caloric density and low residue (winter ration).
I am looking for a safe emulsifier so as to allow a boost in fat as a % of Kcal.
