I agree with Allen's assessment, which by the way, is the product of many years of experience, reflection and the collective knowledge of many. As opposed to the point of view expressed by some folks, which boils down to personal opinion backed up by the statement "because I say so."
My chief interest is to take in as much information as possible and try to gain a sense of the consensus opinion, rather than to formulate a personal point of view. Naturally, I have my personal views and I tend not to push them, but rather I try present the best information we have.
It's said that too many cooks spoil the broth, but this is not soup here. Each of us owes everything we have to those who went before us, made mistakes and learned, so that we can tackle new problems rather than reinvent the wheel.
