What foundation are you referring to when you say plastic based foundation? Are you talking about Duragilt, or do you mean a plastic foundation like Pierco?
Perhaps a better question is, why are you trying to melt wax from plastic foundation? You can scrape old wax off plastic frames fast and easy with a hive tool or wide putty knife. The frames can be reused and you don't have to worry about damaging frames, hot plastic melting or offgassing more into wax, etc.
I would never recommend removing wax from Duragilt. When the wax comes off the plastic, the only way I have found to get new comb drawn is to remove the exposed plastic with a razor knife.
