The key word here is "toxic." Anything that kills mites is by necessity
toxic.
To me, the more important question is whether the product leaves a
persistent residue.
Apivar (amitraz) appears to leave a less persistent residue (a metabolite)
than the other synthetics.
Thymol can definitely leave residues, but I'm not yet clear as to how
persistent they are.
Even formic and oxalic exhibit toxic or prolonged sublethal effects, so
certainly can't be considered to be "non toxic." But neither of them
appear to leave persistent residues--a huge selling point.
