Hi Allen and all
I thought, when I read the label information posted, that putting the
strips between frames in a 10 frame brood box, with space on either
side so that bees would be walking on both sides, is someone's pipe
dream (at least in Canada). Here, where I live, hive boxes are made
from 7/8" lumber. The inside measurement is therefore 14 7/8". Ten
1" frames and eleven 7/16" spaces takes up 14 13/16", leaving a whole
1/16" wiggle room. Now, when you insert the strip, you are dividing
the 7/16" space in half with a strip that is almost 1/8" thick(as I
recall) .
I have always used 9 frames in both honey and brood boxes. The
resulting space between the frames is almost 1/2". The bees draw out
deeper cells putting the bee space back to 7/16", but only in the
honey band at the top of the frames. The Apivar strips should have
sufficient room adjacent to the brood.
